Handwoven linen tea towel with fringe in m’s and o’s
Original product name: Handwoven linen tea towel in m’s and o’s
This tea towel was woven by me on a nineteenth century barn loom. I measured the warp on a warping board, beamed the threads onto the loom, threaded the heddles, sleyed the reed, and finally wove each towel. I stitched the hems by hand, leaving a fringe.
The pattern of this towel is m’s and o’s, a texture common in the nineteenth century for linen towels. The floats of the warp show the sheen of the linen, and make for an absorbent towel.
The warp is undyed linen and the weft is bleached linen. There is a fine stipe of green linen at each end of the towel. The towel measures 22 by 21 1/2 inches, excluding the fringe.
From start to finish, I make my towels by hand.
This towel is of fine weight, perfect for use as a tea towel, hand towel, or napkin. The linen is smooth, yet hardworking.
