Handwoven linen and hemp tea towel in m’s and o’s
This towel was handwoven on a nineteenth century barn loom. I measured the warp, threaded the heddles, sleyed the reed, beamed on, wove the towels, and finally cut each one and sewed the hem by hand with needle and thread.
From start to finish, I make my towels by hand.
The warp of this towel are undyed linen. The stripes are green linen, and brown and orange hemp. The pattern is created through the texture of the thread floats, in a structure called m’s and o’s. This pattern alternates plain blocks and rib blocks, creating a textured and absorbent towel.
The linen is smooth and has a nice sheen in the light. The towel is fine weight, and would be well suited to use as a tea towel or a napkin.
This towel measures 21 1/2 by 26 inches.
A lovely housewarming or wedding gift.
